Here are some client testimonials about the interior design & decorating services provided by Parsons Interiors Ltd. Call us now to book an appointment to visit our design & furniture store in Oakville & Mississauga.

We took their advice and we were pleased with the results. My husband and I sought out Parsons Interiors of Oakville when we were getting quotes on finishing our basement. Parsons Interior’s team and designers were involved right from the beginning by helping us figure out what we were trying to accomplish, our goal was to have a 21st Century man cave English pub style, but we also needed it to work with my likes as a woman and be functional for our young twins.
Parson’s team came up with sketches, and floor plans while helped us with design layout, and style of furniture. Picking out all of the furnishing’s for the basement renovation was a big part of what we were looking for as well as fabric for cushions, drapes, area rugs as well as wallpaper for the bathroom. Jackie has a real talent for colour matching and I was amazed at what she was able to put together for us. With the floor plans, we were able to determine the proper size furniture for the room and order all the furniture so that it was ready by the time the basement was finished. Throughout the project, over the period of many months, Parsons Interiors have been very reliable and timely. Jackie tracked projects, kept on top of several suppliers and provided us with updates regularly.
Overall our experience was extremely pleasant and we would recommend Parsons Interiors to anyone looking for advice and help with home décor.

My family and I were making a huge transition from our 3000 sq. feet traditional home, that we had lived in for 20 years to a new custom built 6000+ sq feet home. We decided to let go of the traditional look and opted for something different. On the search for an interior decorator and designer we came across Parsons Interiors, we called and got in touch with Jackie. That same weekend Jackie had us in her office pulling samples and starting to design our new home. We had many meetings with Jackie as she took us through step by step, room by room what her plans were. It was truly an easy and stress-free process for us. Jackie was amazing! She knew instantly our likes and dislikes and gathered the most beautiful rugs, pieces of furniture and accessories too. Not only did Jackie pick out our furniture, she helped with designing our kitchen, washrooms, and both of our family rooms custom wall units. All of our walk-in closets were designed by Parsons Interiors including my dressing room. Some of our windows were very challenging but Jackie found a solution and came up with the most beautiful window coverings. Jackie was there every step of the way and spent countless hours at our home, laying down rugs, moving around furniture, making sure everything was perfect. Our experience with Jackie and Parsons Interior has been truly exceptional! We are so thankful to Jackie and her team for making our house into a home. We are so grateful to have found such a wonderful and spirited individual to design our home!

Jackie Connolly exceeded our expectations meeting all our needs and operating within our budget. All deadlines were met and the coordination of all purchased furniture pieces arrived on moving day as she supervised the unpacking and placement ensuring all was as agreed to. Jackie made the whole process fun and easy!

I wanted to make our new house a home for my family. During the first meeting, Jackie took the time to talk with me to understand the style I was looking for. Jackie was able to understand the look and feel that I wanted in my house and make suggestions with my preferences in mind. Jackie was able to coordinate the painter and installers needed to complete the work. All trades people in my home were always professional and provided a high quality of work.

I have had the honor and privilege of working with Parsons Interiors for the past 5 years in making my house a home. Our first endeavor together was reupholstering my living room and front hall furniture. Jackie walked in and had the uncanny ability to know my taste right away. She never imposed her tastes on me but listened to what I had to say. She guided me through every aspect of the decoration. She fought hard to get me the right area carpets for all the rooms. When it came time to do a huge renovation on our main floor I called Jackie right away. She provided the name of a company for me and arranged all the meetings. Jackie dealt with everything for me arranging a private appt. to view appliances, all floor treatments, kitchen cabinets, the list is endless. I don’t know how many times I said: “Jackie I don’t know what I would do without you”. Jackie made a project I had no idea where, to begin with a pleasure. Throughout the project, we laughed and enjoyed the odd glass of wine. Jackie knows me so well now that I don’t even question her choices. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Jackie. The journey is not over. I would not hesitate to recommend Jackie. She has been my godsend.

I’ve interviewed and received quotes from a number of interior designers over the years and – I have to admit – have been less than impressed with the people that I have met; such that I’ve actually opted to not complete projects at all. All that changed with a gem of a designer named Jackie Connolly from Parsons Interiors! Jackie actually listened to me and heard what I was looking for, and has taken my taste into consideration every step of the way. Her ability to read people and adapt styles to her customer’s needs is terrific and has yielded results that I am absolutely thrilled with. It’s amazing working with a professional and that’s exactly what Jackie is. Thank you Jackie! I look forward to our future projects together.

As a woman who uses a wheelchair for all of my mobility, I needed someone who could find and deliver the items necessary to completely refresh my living room and master bedroom. Jackie Connolly from Parsons Interiors did that and more. Jackie took the time to understand what I liked and why certain room configurations are not practical for a wheelchair user. Jackie was very patient while we worked together to create an environment that would make me happy. She provided photos, suggestions and many samples for me to consider. As a result, I now have a vibrant living room and a bedroom that I absolutely enjoy! Parsons Interiors added some new furniture piece that was needed and was able to keep some of existing furniture as well. I love the rich colours and expanded my decorative thinking by including a modern chandelier and accessories. A colleague at work recommended me to Parsons Interiors. I would definitely collaborate with Jackie again, the next time I want to change a part of my house.
Thank you, Jackie!

I met, Jackie Connolly from Parsons Interiors in 2012 while networking with the Mississauga Networking group. Jackie’s people skills and knowledge as a certified interior designer and home stager impressed me. The majority of home buyers search the internet, so the photos and virtual tours of my listings must be exceptional. Having the home staged ensures that when buyers are searching they will immediately put it on the list as one of the properties they would like to view. When they arrive they are greeted to a warm and inviting home. This also attracts other real estate agents when searching for listings. They would rather take their clients to a property that looks appealing rather than one that is empty and has very poor unattractive images. Jackie advises the clients in a very friendly manner. Going through the home room by room with the client, making suggestions to furniture arrangements, accent pieces required, etc. Parsons store carries beautiful Canadian made furniture and unusual artwork, accessories, and everything else that is needed to stage or decorate a home. After the staging has been completed, many clients want to hire Parsons Interiors to decorate their new home after seeing the results of what staging can do to their home. The homes that Parsons Interiors has staged for my clients, sold in record time, and for top dollar. I have recommended Jackie Connolly from Parsons Interiors to both my clients and to other agents.

I met Jackie Connolly through a referral from a friend of mine. Jackie came to my house, as I wanted to re-do my hallway, living room and dining room. After the initial consultation, I decided to give her a try. Well let me tell you she knows her stuff. Jackie was able to source many Canadian furniture suppliers which was one of my request. Jackie took me to a few manufacturers where I was able to see the quality first hand. We went through many pictures and ideas and she got a really good feel for what I like and what I don’t like. She is a genuine person, very fair and honest. She decorated my rooms the way I had asked and I was thoroughly satisfied. I will tell you I gave her a real run for her money, as I am very picky with pictures and lamps. She went through so many with me, always taking the time to satisfy me. Her motto is she wants you to be happy as you are going to live in it! I am so happy with the way these rooms turned out. In the end I had her do some updates to my family room, all with complete satisfaction. If you are looking for someone who will work hard for you, Jackie is the right lady!

Jackie from Parsons Interiors came to the rescue with a professional Decor consultation when we were at a loss as how to decorate and update our open concept main floor. With some furnishings staying and some going, some floors completed and some needing an update and our existing upgraded kitchen I was pleasantly surprised at how many ideas and suggestions Jackie had. With obvious skill and enthusiasm she made color and fabric suggestions, styling and placement plans and worked with what we had in directing us to accessories and pieces that would have maximum impact and pull it all together. I was very impressed and look forward to having her work with us, within our budget and time lines in the near future.

My name is Tammy, I’m an entrepreneur Makeup Artist, and a busy Mom. After the birth of my daughter, our whole house was taken over with baby stuff. I realized I needed help from a professional Interior Decorating firm so I gave Parson Interiors a call. Jackie Connolly gave me a floor plan that works to meet the needs of our current lifestyle. I wanted an elegant and modern home but didn’t know where to start. After working with the floor plan that Jackie gave us, I now have started the exciting process of redecorating my house to meet the needs of all my family members. Jackie was really what I needed to organize my needs, find the products I need within my price range, and “ground” my selections so they would be items to last forever with more timeless choices! Jackie always provided several options as well as photographs of the choices whether on digital, paper or direction to websites, adding the visual element made the selections easier! I do not hesitate to refer Jackie’s talent and bubbly personality!

We hired Jackie to reupholster two wingback chairs we’ve had for years but were in desperate need of an update. She helped us choose a fabric that matched our existing decor and was within our budget. Jackie did a great job of both and we absolutely love our ‘new’ chairs. We were particularly impressed with the quality of the workmanship, which was excellent and very meticulous.

The following is a letter of reference for Interior Decorator Jackie Connolly. I bought a home in Georgetown, Ontario in the spring of 2007. The house was completely unfurnished when I moved in from a one bedroom apartment. With the exception of a bed and a few bedroom furnishings, nothing else from my apartment could be used in my new home. In other words, the entire re-decorating effort was from scratch. In the past, I had always relied on my wife to look after the furnishing of our homes. I had absolutely no experience in interior decorating. As a result, I hired Jackie to help me do my interior decorating. I did not know where to begin, as I had no idea what I wanted. This was frustrating to both Jackie and me. She correctly recommended that we spend several Friday’s visiting various furniture stores. After several outings, she began to get a feel for what I wanted. This turned out to be a “traditional” style. The most important pieces of furniture were the chesterfield and wing back chairs. After searching many stores we could not find a piece that we liked. She recommended that we go to a furniture manufacturer in Vaughn. There, we finally found a chesterfield style that I liked. We then went through about a 100 different fabrics with a wide variety of patterns and colors. Jackie finally found a floral pattern that beautifully matched my blue carpet and burgundy walls. When we got the chesterfield six weeks later, it turned out to be a perfect match. The same was true how we chose the color and patterns for the wing back chairs. All this was done at a reasonable price, which Jackie was able to negotiate on my behalf. In total, she helped me purchase over 25 different pieces of furniture, artwork and other home furnishing items. I can say that all the pieces fit the “traditional” theme and melded together to stand out in a golden glow under the beautiful chandelier that she found. Jackie also saved me a fair bit of money by taking me to dealers that could only deal with Interior Decorators and there by getting me discounts. Jackie is sociable, fun and energetic. I highly recommend her for anyone needing an Interior Decorator.

I strongly recommend Jackie Connolly for all aspects of home decorating. She is superb … extremely knowledgeable, qualified, very enthusiastic (she loves her work), is very detailed and listens to her client! Her decorating flair nicely complements her knowledge.
Jackie did a wonderful job in sourcing and supervising the installation of windows and doors for my entire home. This was a big job requiring exact measuring and planning. I am completely satisfied with all aspects of the job. Thanks Jackie.

Home Staging

Parsons Interiors tips, and tricks on how to make your property look professional when staging. Staging is an overlooked, yet important method when selling a home.

The first step is to maximize curb appeal in this step, you must decide how to make the first impression on the buyers. By making a good first impression the buyers will be intrigued and want to learn more. Make sure the landscaping of the house is all up to date is neatly organized, a fresh coat of paint on the front door can also go a long way. Make sure you are not too attached to the house to the point where you no longer want to sell, but also not completely detached, so the house feels like a ghost town. Often homeowners blow their budgets on expensive upgrades but, but decorating your home is just as impactful and much cheaper. Remember it’s all in the details, so Parsons Interiors recommends you replace burnt out light bulbs, place fresh linens in bedrooms, and most importantly let there be light. Lighting makes the room feel bigger and more welcoming and that’s what you are trying to say to the clients, that they are welcome in this home.

The next step to staging a home is, choose a neutral colour palette. Bold colours are great for living, but not for selling. Light and bright should be your motto, keeping things light and bright make things look bigger especially in small rooms, and if the walls haven’t been painted in over 2 years, now is the time. Highlight best use of the space. Each room should be shown for its intended purpose, but giving a room more than one function is a great way to effectively show the space. Finally, make sure everything is clean!

The final step in making your home beautiful is to invest in places such as kitchens & bathrooms. If your kitchen/ bathrooms are dated then consider investing in repairing and upgrading these rooms. If your budget is limited, changing cabinetry hardware to brushed nickel or silver knobs and handles will give them an immediate appeal, also consider painting cabinetry instead of replacing them. Flooring is also another major area to increase the value of your home, it always cost less to replace worn carpets or add new flooring than to leave it to the new home owners. Remember, vacant properties sit, furnished properties sell. People perceive furnished homes that are well decorated as worth more. Always call a professional stager for help, don’t hesitate, let Parsons Interiors help you do it right!

Steps to go about staging your home

  1. Disassociate yourself with your home
    1. By doing this it makes the buyer feel like they can now take over and make what was once yours, into theirs
  2. Depersonalize
    1. Pack up those personal photographs and family heirlooms
    2. Remove/replace favorite items
    3. When personal items are out it blocks the buyer’s imagination
    4. The buyer must imagine their personal items in the house, and they can’t if yours are still up
  3. Declutter
    1. People collect an amazing quantity of belongings over time
    2. When things are cluttered it makes the space unappealing
    3. By decluttering, you are allowing the buyer to see the potential of the space
    4. Rent a storage unit
    5. Get rid of all excess items, and only keep the ones that focus on the purpose of the intended area
  1. Rearrange bedroom closets and kitchen cabinets
    1. Clean everything! A messy house is not appealing
  1. Make the house sparkle
    1. Make minor repairs
    2. Scrutinize
    3. Go outside of the house and ask yourself, would you want to go inside?
    4. Check curb appeal

Measuring a Room for Wallpaper

The main determinant in ordering the proper quantity of wallpaper for your room is simply the square footage of the room. The easiest way to determine this is to measure each wall separately and add the combined square footage of all the walls.

For example, if an 8’ high wall is 12’ long and has a standard door, the square footage of that wall is: 8’x12’(height x width) = 96 sq.ft. minus the door frame 7’x3’ = 21 sq.ft.; therefore 96sq.ft. – 21 sq.ft. = 75 sq.ft. After adding all four wall measurements you will have the total square footage. Remember to be liberal with your measurements as there is always a potential for waste when trimming the wallpaper. Adding 10% to your order is a good rule of thumb where there is a potential for waste from vertical trimming.

Feature Walls

Be aware that when measuring for feature walls, we can only use full and complete strips of wallpaper. First, measure your wall width in inches. When purchasing, determine the width of the wallpaper roll (ie 20.5” or 27”) and then determine how many strips you will need to cover the wall width. For example: you have a wall that is 138” wide (11.5’); your wallpaper is 20.5” wide; you will need 7 full strips of wallpaper (20.5 x 7 = 143.5”) to cover your wall width.

Hiring an Interior Decorator can be one of the most practical things you do in your home.

An Interior Decorator will work with you, the client, to solve decorating dilemmas and challenges to bring out the home’s potential and best features while creating a unique, innovative and livable space which reflects your individual taste, personality and style.

Using an Interior Decorator does not have to be costly, in fact using a decorator can stop costly mistakes. And in the long run, clients can end up saving money and time.  In summary – You don’t need a big budget to hire a decorator or to have a beautiful home.

The secret to creating a high end look without the price tag is to combine a few less expensive materials with one extravagant accent.

Most people have good taste, but are too busy, with little time, to source exactly what they would love for their home.  They are limited to resources available to the public only. Using a decorator enables clients to have access to products not available to the general public, have one of a kind design and a custom look. Decorators have access to hundreds of choices in all areas of home décor which in turn offers the client unique and exclusive design. Decorators have the technical knowledge required to bring about great design.  It is extremely important for clients to be informed about the products they select with respect to care required or the ease of use .

With so much variety these days, the search for anything new can become very daunting and in the end the client can just “settle” for something as they are frustrated with the amount of “foot work” involved to select the perfect products.  A decorator works in partnership with the client to offer innovative and desirable results suited to the client and to maximize the home’s potential.  A decorator gives guidance,  and the services provided can offer little involvement or total involvement on the client’s part as desired.

A decorator has no emotional tie to the home; allowing for objectivity when making decorating choices. A decorator meets with the client, gets to know the type of style they want; their likes and dislikes in home décor and their lifestyle, by asking detailed questions; and then responds to their needs by beginning to source the products to present.  Usually there are several choices and finally the client along with the decorator will zero in on the look they want.  The decorator continues to source the selections can arrange for trades people and do the overall project management of the redecorating or redesign required.

Decorating for a New Year’s Eve Party

Are you hosting a New Year’s Eve Party ? New Year’s is one of the biggest party celebrations out there besides Christmas.  One thing I’ve noticed is that we don’t always know how to decorate for New Year’s and make it look spectacular, but having people talk about it later on in the year about what a fantastic job you did decorating for the party will be a great feeling for you. So today I am writing this article to show you some tips on how to make your New Year’s Eve party amazing.

Step One:

Helium balloons-everyone loves balloons, they are one of the most inexpensive ways to decorate a large room.  Look for colours such as black and white, or silver and gold to make it very formal. Be sure to add a little more creativity into it and add some purple balloons as purple is the new black for fashion. Try to get enough balloons so it can cover up the whole ceiling, you can even place them in a net and have them come down at midnight.

Step Two:

Place a beautiful centerpiece on your dinning room table, hall or the main room that you are hosting the party in. Changing your Christmas arrangement into your New Year’s one is a very easy step.  Take  your centrepieces from “Merry Christmas” to “Happy New Year” just by adding a few noise makers with some sparklers.  For a fun look add a clock in the middle of you coffee table  and place a streamer  around it.

Having silver place settings and white fake snow on the tables while people mingle and have some drinks and appetizers brings the beauty and sparkle of winter inside without all of the cold and mess!

Step Three:

Have fun on your New Year’s Party and do not drink and drive. Have a wonderful New Year’s everyone!! All the best for a safe, happy, and healthy 2013.
