I bet you’ve heard the sage advice.
Attend business networking and trade show events to find new clients and grow your company.
A SOHO (Small Office, Home Office) survey revealed that 57% of companies attend business networking and trade show events for exactly that reason, to showcase their company and find new clients.
Business networking is THE BEST way to find new clients, but exchanging business cards is only the 1st step of your business growth strategies.
Maybe you’ve heard another piece of sage advice.
Meet for coffee to get to know the other person and find out more about their business.
Another survey tells us that 48% of business professionals who attend events and collect cards, will NEVER follow up past that 1st contact conversation.
Meeting people for coffee is a great way to begin building trust, which is a critical component of turning leads into sales. So if you meet for coffee, you have beaten that stat! But many of my clients tell me they run all over town drinking coffee, only to find that they are not turning enough leads into sales. They simply run out of time and the stacks of cards on their desk continue to build.
These 2 pieces of sage advice are a great start.
Another statistic reveals that 80% of sales are WON on the 5th to 12th contact.
Whew .. that sounds like a lot! There has to be more effective business growth strategies than attending events, collecting stacks of business cards and running all over town drinking coffee!
The first thing I tell my clients about Business Networking Success is
Networking is Step 1 and it is not about selling. Of course in time, it definitely leads to sales, but that is not the objective of Step 1. You probably have Step 1 down pat, you have the stacks of business cards.
Step 2 of the Business Growth Strategy is Market Research - Be a detective.
When you meet people ask questions to discover how you can help.
What goal are they trying to reach? Put your thinking hat on and search your archives to find the information you have that can help them reach their goal. It maybe the right answer is your product or service, or it may not be. Either way offer that information and deliver it via email. That way, you are one step closer to developing the know you, like you, trust you factor so critical to turning leads into sales, without meeting for coffee.
If you would like to find out more about how you can turn leads into sales and take your business to the next level, pick up your free copy of the Business Growth Strategies Report, You Have Worked The Room – Now What? You can find it at Kickstart Your Company.com .
Your next step is to attend Set The Stage – Business Development Training to learn the rest of the business growth strategies. You will be on your way to skyrocketing your sales!
Linkedin™, the free online business networking site used by more than 100 million users world wide, is becoming the place to be if you’re looking to grow your business with social media. Chances are you already have an account, but you may not know how to use Linkedin to generate leads and grow your business.
I’ve been using Linkedin for over 3 years now, and have figured out an easy and effective way to use it to generate about 20% of new business by investing just 10 minutes a day.
Since September 2010 I’ve been hosting a series of hands-on seminars on how to use Linkedin for business, which I call taking Linkedin to the Max! The next session is scheduled for Thursday, October 6, 10am-12:30pm. Start the “new business year” the right way and invest in the marketing of your business.
In 2-1/2 hours I will share with you the tips and tricks on how you, too, can use this free online resource to grow your business. Many business owners, just like you, have attended one of the 10 previous sessions of this workshop and recommend it to their connections on Linkedin. Check out their recommendations here.
Many more testimonials can be found on my blog.
It’s a small investment on your part and it’s going to work for you or you get your tuition back, no fuss. (I have yet to receive a refund request…)
Register on line or if you prefer to pay by cheque call 905-844-4247 or toll-free 1-877-ibiz-269 to reserve your seat (reg. bus. hours please)

Let's connect:Linkedin, the social media site for professionals has established itself as the place to go for service professionals, solopreneurs and small business owners to generate leads and build their business.
I’ve been using Linkedin actively for 3 years, and have found it to be an extremely powerful lead-generation tool, especially for self-employed service professionals, but it works equally well in creating new business opportunities for all kids of businesses.
Recently I asked members of Linkedin how much new business they generate and 57% said: Zero! Frankly, I am not surprised. Linkedin is getting bigger and more feature-rich, so the learning curve for new users is getting steeper and steeper. Because of this many people open an account and then get discouraged when they start exploring the site. Unfortunately, it is not immediately apparent how can one use Linkedin to get more clients.
If you’re struggling with making Linkedin work for you, come to my popular 2-1/2-hour workshop *Linkedin to the MAX* and learn my secrets. Click here to register today for the next session on May 5.
Here’s one participant’s testimonial — Since participating in your Linkedin to the Max! workshop, I have been expanding my list of connections, and have already seen positive results. I have made some great connections that could result in business opportunities. Your workshop presentation was clear and very informative. Even I, a self-proclaimed “techno-idiot”, learned a lot, and have started to put some of your recommendations into practice. – Thank you!! — Jim White (click this link for more testimonials for my seminars)

Consult an investment advisor, and chances are quite good that their advice will be to diversify your portfolio. Consult a dietitian or other health practitioner, and they’ll likely advise that a variety of foods is key to better health. Ask a life coach about enriching your life and they’ll probably recommend that you get out and try a variety of activities to stimulate, educate and entertain you. Ask a marketing communications expert about the way to reach out to your circle of contacts, and the same advice should resonate – diversification! Using different types of communication media will often help reach your intended recipients, as they will invariably have differing schedules, preferred means of communicating, and also, a variety of learning channels that appeal to each of them. Greeting cards are an effective way to add another “touch point” to your communications tool box. They are a warm and personal way of saying you care, and since most of us rarely receive them, they truly are “something special” when they arrive! Apart from the obvious occasions like Christmas and Birthdays, greeting cards are an excellent way to say Thanks for the business, referral or taking the time, Congratulations, Welcome, Condolences, and so much more throughout the entire year. Your friends, family and business associates will appreciate it, bringing you that much closer to them. Send a real paper greeting card, from your PC/Mac yourself, for free at www.sendoutcards.com/jampagliacci.
